| | IntraYojana: A G2G SolutionIntraYojana is an integrated one-stop intranet portal for all government-to-employee applications. It aims to provide a single, personalised entry point or gateway to information and systems that any employee needs. Most of the routine and critical business applications are accessible through this portal.
This intranet portal aims at bringing about an employee-centric focus, thereby cultivating an e-culture in the process of governance. IntraYojana provides state-of-art collaboration services, such as a discussion forum, document sharing workflow and shared Events. It is also provided with a content management framework (CMF), which can enable employees to own content and submit the same for subsequent review and publication on the portal.
The IntraYojana portal seeks to empower employees, with the deployments of G2E/G2G solutions and plays a vital role in motivating them and obtaining their commitment for e-government implementations.
PROCESS-> IntraYojana portal is a web-based software based on Linux/Windows platform that has been developed using Zope-Application server, Plone content management system and Python/TAL (template attribute language) scripting language. Concurrent users requests to access the services provided on the portal pass through a firewall to the load balancer, which dynamically forwards request to a server having the least load from the farm of computers.
IMPACT-> The solution ensures efficient and timely delivery of information and services in a transparent manner. It facilitates an environment and work area which can enable users to create their own portals, add content, email and print content and access organisation information. It provides an online paperless pay slip, GPF statement and income-tax statement. The centralised user management service removes ambiguity, discrepancies and redundancy. The portal has been operational since December 2004 and has 1,400 users. The average number of daily users is 800. The service is available on a 24x7 basis.
SCALABILITY-> To ensure high availability and scalability of the portal, it has been configured with Zope Enterprise Objects or ZEO, a system/architecture that allows running the portals on more than one computer. Using ZEO, the requests are spread evenly around many computers and more computers can be added as the number of requests grows. Further, if one computer fails or crashes, other computers can continue to service requests. Future development of the project envisages migration to the latest version of Zope based on component-based architecture, providing centralised authentication and user management service, using LDAP and W3C standards, and usage of latest technologies, such as AJAX, RSS Feeds, etc.
